Sometimes a child may be slow in his learning pace such as in reading and writing. Before you start blaming yourself try to find the real root of the problem. Sometimes slow pace in learning could mean that a child may have dyslexia. Some other signs of dyslexia are speech, reading and listening problems.
The delay of speaking is also an indication of dyslexia. Sometimes this delay is caused by problem in processing and decoding auditory input. A child may stutter in uttering words because of the problem in hearing, he cannot speak the words clearly.
Stuttering with word when a child should be speaking clearly already could be a sign of dyslexia. Sometimes a child might often mixed-up syllables just like the word spaghetti as bisghetti or the word helicopter for hekalopter. Articulating letters such as the L, M, N and R might be rumbled too. Dyslexic children need to join a speech therapy class.
Speech problems are caused by auditory processing disorder. The child may have problem processing the auditory information. A hearing test may be necessary to find out more specifically what the situation is.
Common symptoms of speech and hearing impaired children and as well as dyslexia are that the child becomes confused between the words and on and off or left and right. It is also hard for them to learn the alphabet, retrieving words, rhyming words and delivering the syllables of a word.
Difficulty in distinguishing different sounds can also be seen on a child with dyslexia. The child may have a different concept of time. If the child have traumatic experience on his disability he may lost his self-esteem, shy and withdrawn. He might isolate himself with other people and this is not good for him. The fear of speaking incorrectly will affect different children in different ways. Where one child may become shy and withdrawn, another may become loud and a bully.
