Is ColoPure a Scam?

25 03 2009

Today’s colon cleanser review will be focused on ColoPure. ColoPure is another average colon cleanse product that uses an autoship system to make all their money. This review will give you a glimpse of the ingredients in the product as well as the company that’s behind it in order to help you make your purchasing decisions.

The first thing that I noticed when reviewing ColoPure was that the website looked very similar to another one that I had reviewed previously. I checked it out and sure enough, both ColoPure and Colotox had almost the exact same website. Essentially all that was changed was the name of the product, the pill labels, and the colors. Even the sales copy was the same (they both claimed to be the #1 colon cleanser). It’s looking like the same company is running both ColoPure and Colotox. Seems rather lazy to me to not even change the site a little bit.

Not only did they not change the website design, but they didn’t change the testimonials of the products either! Both websites show the exact same wording and photos for their testimonials. Not that I really believed that they were real in first place, but now it’s painfully obvious that they’ve just made up the testimonials. ColoPure is surely losing some credibility here.

Are the products even different? If you’re talking about ingredients, no. The ingredients are exactly the same in both products. I’m sure they’re even made at the same place at the same time. One bottle goes to get a Colotox label put on, while the next gets wrapped in a ColoPure label. I will say that the ingredients are fine (high in fiber), and should be relatively effective.

The product and the website aren’t the only things that haven’t changed. ColoPure also has the same autoship scam that Colotox had. When you order a free trial, if you don’t cancel within 14 days, they’ll automatically start shipping you more supplies and charging your credit card. What gets bad, however, is that it is reportedly extremely difficult to get a hold of them and actually cancel this autoship. There are many complaints stating that the consumer was unable to get any refunds for their returns as well.

If, by some miracle, you are able to return the product, they do have a money back guarantee. Unfortunately, however, you only have a mere 14 days to return the product (even though they suggest that you use it for 3 months in order to see results). In addition, they charge a 15% restocking fee on anything returned. Doesn’t sound like much a satisfaction guarantee does it?

When I checked with the BBB on the company behind ColoPure, I wasn’t surprised to find that they gave them an F rating. The BBB report stated that they had received complaints about unauthorized charged, not honoring their cancellation policy, not giving refunds, etc. For obvious reasons, I don’t think this is a company that you can trust.

In summary, ColoPure is a scam. The company is a deceptive company, and not a very smart one at that. They lure you in with the free trial and then start charging your credit card. It’s likely to be very difficult to get your money back as well. The product itself seems decent, but at what price?

Are There Any Lasik Complications I Should Be Aware Of?

23 03 2009

Lasik eye surgery can have a lot of benefits if you suffer from common eye complaints such as myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism. Most people who opt for this kind of surgery do so in the hope that they will walk away at the end of their procedure with improved eyesight that allows them to go through life without having to rely on glasses or contact lenses any longer.

For many people these are the results that they get from Lasik surgery. But, for others, this kind of surgery can cause other problems and complications. Some of these can be remedied but some cannot so it is important to understand them before you choose this kind of refractive surgery as a solution.

In some cases, for example, your surgery may actually not do enough to cure your problem and in others it can do too much to give you the right kinds of results. So, for example, you could have a Lasik procedure and actually still find that you need to wear glasses or contacts after it. In some cases you can have another operation to sort this out but this is not a guaranteed option for everybody.

Some people who have this kind of surgery may also find that they actually lose some vision as a result of their procedure. This is often referred to as losing ‘lines’ of vision. It is not likely that this complication can be remedied, either by wearing prescription glasses/contacts or by repeating the operation. Generally, if you lose lines of vision then you lose them forever.

It is also possible that you could suffer from visual side effects as a result of surgery here. So, for example, you might see halos around objects when you look at them or a ‘glare’. In some cases some patients have reported a development of double vision as well. These side effects will most commonly occur when light conditions are not good anyway such as at night and when you are in darker situations.

Another relatively common side effect to this kind of laser surgery is known as dry eye syndrome. Here, your eyes become unable to produce enough fluid (i.e. tears) as they should. This is primarily an uncomfortable situation but can also impair the quality of your vision in some cases. You may find that you are prescribed special eye drops or a different kind of surgical procedure if this is a severe problem for you.

Given that this is a relatively new kind of surgical technology and that it does come with some potential complications it is recommended that you think long and hard before you choose this as a vision solution. Do take time to talk to your chosen surgeon about the risks, complications and the long term effects that they could have on your visual health.

Do remember, however, that many more people find that this solution works for them than people who have severe problems with the surgery. Again, you simply need to remember that this a surgical solution that you are taking here and, as such, you need to be risk aware and fully conversant with any issues that could happen before you follow this route to better vision.

A Brief History Of Cosmetics (And Their Dangers!)

22 03 2009

We may think that cosmetics are a relatively new invention but the truth is that they have been around for centuries. Women (and sometimes even men!) have historically used cosmetics to enhance their appearance and to make themselves look and feel more attractive since ancient times. And, they’ve used some unusual stuff along the way!

Most experts credit the Egyptians as the first civilization to really set trends in the use of cosmetics although their use may actually date back further than this. It is thought that the Egyptians were however the first people to promote the use of kohl as a cosmetic on the eyes — a trend that still continues to this day!

Of course not all of the substances that were used by ancient civilizations could be checked in the way that they can be today. So, for example, many Egyptians did themselves no real health favors by using lead and mercury to make up many of the cosmetic substances that they used. White lead was particularly popular as it could make a useful white paste with a variety of uses.

Many early civilizations played it safer with their cosmetic production and used natural products and substances such as beeswax, henna, egg and flowers and plants. The discovery that bird droppings could be used to lighten the color of your hair, however, was not one that carried on through time!

During the years cosmetic production changed but many relatively dangerous substances remained the norm. In the days of Elizabeth I, for example, a white face was a sign of great beauty so court ladies would paint their faces a stark (and often quite scary!) white using white lead. This also poisoned them of course.

It wasn’t really until the 1700s that people started to realize that using substances such as lead, mercury and the ever popular arsenic wasn’t doing their skin or their longevity much good. Unfortunately it was to be a good few centuries before the cosmetic industry became regulated enough to stop manufacturers using these kinds of harmful substances in their products.

So, over the years women have used a hair removal cream based on rat poison, eyelash dyes that have blinded them, foundations that have rotted their skin and maybe contributed to their early death and various facial products based on arsenic. And, things sometimes don’t seem much better today with levels of lead found in certain lipsticks in the past decade or so.

Nowadays, however, women (and men) who wear cosmetics are generally lucky enough to have regulators looking after their general health. Given the global trend towards improving our own health and that of nature and the environment in general, many cosmetics and related products are much more natural than they ever used to be.

The big advantage here is that our skins will suffer less from using today’s cosmetics than they did just a few decades ago. They’ll certainly do better than if we were living in Elizabethan or Ancient Egyptian times!
